Dominique Ansel Bakery’s “Crab” Dessert

Last summer, I had a chance to eat this crab-shaped dessert from Dominique Ansel Bakery in Tokyo.

See how well it resembles a real crab! I am least sure of distinguishing this one and a real one. I just cannot imagine how it was made.

Two of my favorite food are chocolate and crab, so this was like a happy marriage of food to me.

The box came with a hammer to crack open the shell. It was veeery hard to execute since it was too adorable. The two little eyes were innocently staring at me…(I smashed it anyway!)

Inside of the chocolate shell was filled with coconut jelly and mango ganache. The taste was quite unique. I somehow sensed the breeze of Singapore, since this dessert was imitating on the classic Singaporean “Chili Crab” dish.

I hope I can experience more of this kind of dessert innovation again.
