Hey Steemit!
Even though there are still people getting covid, it's basically being treated like a cold these days so thankfully almost everything is back to normal now! There are no more restrictions on dining these days and you don't even have to wear a mask anymore if you don't want to! It's a huge relief and this allows us to try different food places again!
So back in August, I was set to meet up with some of my viewers from my Twitch community! If you've seen my art posts you might've known that I've been streaming on Twitch for a while now. And since one of my viewers was visiting Singapore for a while we thought it'd be cool if we all went out for a meal together!
We let the one who was visiting from overseas choose what to eat since she'd only be here for a short while and she chose Korean BBQ! It'd been a long time since I had Korean BBQ too so we were all for it! We went to try this place called Danji BBQ Buffet in Chinatown which is a highly raved all-you-can-eat buffet KBBQ. Apparently it's been around for a few years and it's even a Korean family-run business so you know it's authentic.
Unfortunately when we arrived on a Friday night it was pretty packed and we didn't make reservations beforehand so we had to wait a little bit. We were told it might be a half hour wait but thankfully it only ended up being about 15 minutes.
The inside of the restaurant it actually quite big with plenty of tables for 4 or if you had a larger party the staff could join the tables together. The grills were built right in to the tables but they don't have the overhead exhausts so there could be freely moved I think.
There were also many fans about the restaurant so there was plenty of ventilation although it did feel quite warm because of all the grills.
As with any all-you-can-eat buffets we get a set amount of time in the restaurant so I think our time limit was 100 minutes. When we got a table we immediately went to the buffet tables to check out the food!
Most of the raw food for grilling was in the central kitchen island and there was a variety of meat on one side, with different types of pork and beef.
On the other side of the meat there were vegetables, sausages, eggs and mashed potato, i.e. the carb and frozen food section which I avoided since I didn't want to fill up on carbs.
On the other half of the island was different types of condiments and sauces, and more vegetables, mushrooms and fruits on the other side.
They also had a number of cooked dishes like Pa Jeon (spring onion pancake), some stir-fried vermicelli noodles and saucy chicken wings along the side where the kitchen was as well as some porridge and soups.
Along the back were the utensils, drinking water and cups.
Each of us took a few plates of food and soon enough our whole table was full!
After we had taken more than enough stuff it was time to cook! I was getting hungry just listening to the sizzling everywhere and the aroma of cooked meat was intoxicating. We put some meat, garlic and vegetables on the hotplate and waited for it to cook.
One of my viewers taught us a trick with his hotplate was to put the enoki mushrooms at the side where there was a gap in the pan for the excess oil to drip. The mushrooms would absorb all the oil and juices and get very seasoned and delicious after!
We ended up cooking all the different types of meat to try and I actually really liked the spicy marinated pork quite a bit. It was spicy but not too spicy for me and it added a lot more flavour to the meat, and it tasted really good wrapped in the fresh lettuce which was what I did since that's how KBBQ is typically consumed.
The other meats were quite tender for the most part, but the pork belly which was the biggest and thickest cut was a little tougher than the rest because of how thick it was. It was still good though. Since most of the meats were a little dry with the lettuce I tried the seasonings with them and they complemented quite well too! I think the special homemade Bean Paste was my favourite but they said it was very salty so I made sure to use it sparingly.
After a few rounds of cooking we noticed that there was a drink menu on the wall beside us and since they were drinkers they decided to order a bottle of Soju to share.
I'm not really much of a drinker but it was just a regular bottle of chamisul soju and they ordered the green grape one so it wouldn't be too strong. I just had a little bit since I didn't really like the taste of soju but it was actually not too bad, and tasted like grape juice with a funky aftertaste.
We 'cheers'ed to a good meal while finishing up the rest of the meat we took and later had some fruits for dessert and a palate cleanser. I think we were there for about 90 minutes or so but it wasn't that crowded towards the end so we could take our time and chat while finishing up. Overall, it was definitely a very delicious meal and by the end all of us were so full we couldn't eat any more!
It was kinda pricey though but for so much meat available and in quite a central location I guess it was reasonable. It is a pretty nice place so I'd recommend it but maybe go during Mon-Thur instead so you wouldn't have to wait long.
Thanks so much for reading!
