Tips & Tricks For Cake Decorating - 4 Easy Ways of Cake Decorating

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hi friends,

Today I would love to share you a couple of super easy how to decorate your cakes. By no means I am close to the famous Bake Boss level whatsoever, but these four ways I will be sharing today, would make your cake prettier, without tons of hassles.

I have been baking since I was young. My birth mother and my adoptive mum were both working in food industries, I grew up with yumminess, but for the love of pastry, I could not decorate a cake pretty to save my life!

For the longest time I could remember, my baked goodies were always relying on colorful sprinkles or grated chocolate - ONLY 😂 So hopeless.

In early 2000ish I started to fall in love with playing with my food, thinking maybe I should make my serving plates prettier, or let's not kid my own self, those yucky maraschino cherries are not enough to make the dessert sweet looking, and sushi was damn hard for beginner. Needless to say, I think I fell in love with the idea of presenting my food better, but it was a bust 😂

Thank goodness for internet, right? But heck, back days in early 2000ish, no bakers willing to share knowledge much, of course knowledge is expensive, shouldn't be given away just like that, others have to earn it, just like trust isn't given but earn 😉 So I had so many trials and errors in making my food better, and back to relying to colored sugar and whatnot 😁

My first basket weave, did this with a couple of friends years ago, what a mess 😂

Today I think I am (somewhat) okay in cake decorating especially when it comes to fondant.

But if buttercream, whipped cream and/or chocolate is your jam and you think it's still not easy enough to decorate your cakes, let me introduce you how I cheat when I am stuck with no ideas.

  • Fruit slices make lovely cakes! - just have to remember, they don't last long once they are sliced/taken out of packaging, so cakes with fruits are normally chilled until ready to serve

  • Make chocolate band/collar to dress up the sides! - you can be creative here, pipe melted chocolate to whatever characters or styles you like.

You can use parchement paper strip, wax paper strip, and most importantly which will be ton easier, use elastic plastic strip/acetate pastry strip/polystyrene pastry strip.

All you have to do is melt the chocolate, pipe on the strip, and wrap the cake with while the chocolate is still wet, let it firm up, and peel the strip.

  • Buttercream transfer! - so fun, so simple, can be so attractive, using your favorite buttercream.

All you need to do is lay over a printed picture you'd like to follow on a flat removable thing like a light chopping board, for example. Secure this printed picture with sticky tape, then lay a wax/parchement paper on top of the printed picture, secure this paper as well, then start outlining the picture with your buttercream.

Once you are done 'painting' with your colorful buttercream, top the whole picture with more buttercream. Say your cake is white, top the whole picture with white, then freeze the buttercream until harden.

Once your buttercream picture is harden, slowly lift and flip onto your cake, peel paper carefully, and ta-daaaaa

  • Chocolate transfer - ooohhh yuuuummmm! - just like buttercream transfer, but using melted chocolate.

All steps the same but chill in the fridge instead freezer and attach with buttercream or melted chocolate to your cake

Nice work . Upvote and followed do follow me thanks .

I sure like the fruit as decoration. You're doing great with cakes🍰

Sometimes it's fun to look back and laugh at your cringy past efforts, makes you feel so much better about where you've gotten to XD I do that every now and again with my sketchbooks, but they will never again see the light of day :D

I'm seriously biased towards your fruit-topped cakes because I like fruit-topped cakes and they look awesome :)
