Black Bean Burgers

Tonight, as promised, I made black bean burgers! I have to say, using those delicious fresh black beans made them the most amazing burgers I've ever had!!

I've never been a huge fan of burgers, even when I ate cows and chickens. I actually never tried a burger until I was in my early 20's, they just always grossed me out by the look and smell of them.

Needless to say, I had no problem giving them up!

Since then, however, I've found that burgers, patties and falafel type things are integral to our meals.

For these bad boys I threw a green pepper and an onion into the food processor and pulsed until they were minced, then added in the three slices of organic toast that I had already pulsed into crumbs. Next I put the remainder of my black beans I cooked yesterday in there, about 3 cups. I added a bunch of spices, smoked paprika, onion powder, some home made onion mix I nabbed as a photo on a Facebook post:

This stuff rocks! I used my dehydrated onions from the garden too!

Then I mixed it all up! I made sure not to over process it, I wanted to still see little chunks of everything.

I used my brand new silicone baking sheets to cook them on, I had been wanting to get some for a long time and finally took the plunge, I'm so glad I did!!! No more parchment paper for me! :)

Check it out! No mess!

I cooked the burgers for about 30-40 minutes, until they were nice and browned on each side.

For my burger, I spread a little Veganaise, ketchup and topped with some homegrown tomatoes and a Daiya cheese slice :)

I offered sauerkraut, mustard and home made pickles as toppings as well.

I hope I can properly recreate these again in the future!!

This looks so yummy, I'm already salivating.
I'll definitely try it out.

Thanks for sharing this

Thanks! They were so delicious! :)

They look delicious!! Now, I want to grow black beans next year and see how it is different from store-bought.

I was actually really surprised! I've only had canned black beans so I noticed a massive difference! Give it a go! :)

i usually cook and can my own from dried beans. But if all works out, I will grow some next year... and have a side by side taste test

I've been planning to get a pressure canner so that I can do that too! Goals!! :)

Keep an eye out on second-hand sites - don't know what they are in your area, but here, we have several online give away free or sell by a private party sites. My friend did her research and knew what she wanted - then she kept looking and found a $500 dollar one for $100.

Great tip! Thank you!
