It is actually a green algae which grow in shallow water of Okinawa Island in Japan. As it produce brunch of green spheres. So it is known as sea grapes. Its special feature is its green color disappear in darkness and its special green color reappears in light.
It is used as salad. It has great nutritional value. It is rich in carbohydrates, protein, fiber, omega 3, antioxidants, and minerals.

Looks tasty and i have never heard of it. I would be willing to try it but when you said Japan made me think I would rather try it from another source. Fukashima radiation worries me.
