Tasty Tropical Fruit #3 : The Papaya

in food •  7 years ago

Today we going to look at the papaya fruit.
I'm not a big fan of this fruit, But sometimes i enjoy it.
The reason i don't like it that much cause it's not that easy to find a good fully ripe papaya, Well at least here in Thailand.

Taste

The papaya fruit is loaded with healthy nutrients especially in vitamins A and C.
Usually the tasty part is right under the papaya seeds, Sometimes the papaya can be bitter.

Hot to know when ripe?

The method that i use to know if the papaya is ripe. I press gently on the fruit, If it's a bit squishy. Then it's ready to eat.
A few molds is also a good indication.

Bonus

Funny thing is that i'm from Israel and i had in Israel better papayas than in Thailand.
Some people say that it's healthy to eat the papaya seeds,Kills parasites etc.
Iv'e never really tried it. I think it's going to be too bitter.

I once to a raw foods certification class and learned that the seeds are often used as birth control. Its an amazing fruit. Not always that tasty though.

yeah same experience here, it's not always tasty but when it's ripe it's really good!

It's a yummy fruit. Thanks for all the insights you shared through this post. Fun and informative. I look forward to visiting Israel and Thailand so that I can compare papayas from both countries and see which one is the best :)

Maybe you should travel the world and find the perfect papaya! ;)

Excellent suggestion. Moving forward I will try to compare papayas from different parts of the world.
