Why You Should Never Eat The Same Foods Day After Day

in food •  7 years ago

Last year while eating almonds my throat began to itch. This was the first time my body was reacting to something I was eating. While I didn't break out in hives, my throat was itchy for a couple of hours. I recognized this as the beginning of an allergy.

Upon doing some research within my cupboards, reading labels and checking ingredients I became alarmed at how our foods have taken a change for the worst. I'm not talking about preservatives, I'm taking about over abundance of the same ingredients in multiple foods. This had me thinking the almond issue was caused by virtually all foods using almonds. The same can be said of whole wheat. Our bodies are works of art as it carefully digests everything we put into it. When we eat foods that have the same structure of ingredients the body is using the same controls to digest over and over.

First, I am not a doctor or a dietician but I am very in tune with my body functions. If you read doctor prescribed dietary suggestions, you'll notice the menu varies every day. My problem with these menus was the redundancy of certain ingredients. So I set out to change how my body processed the food I ate with a simple formula anyone can follow.

Let's start with whole wheat. Have you noticed wheat is now in everything? Read labels. You will be shocked! Wheat had caused some minor issues for me where I felt so bloated I thought I would explode! Food manufactures are putting this in everything in the name of healthy, low fat, low cholesterol. At what price to humans?

Almonds are another big one. It is hard to find products that don't use almonds some where in the ingredients. Because I wanted to give my body at least a years break from this nut, I wouldn't buy anything with almonds in it. Nuts can be good for us in small quantities, just not the same one over and over. Variety is the spice of life and your body will love you more when it gets varieties.

Whole grains again are dominating the shelves in almost every product. Sure whole grains are good, but what are the whole grains? Wheat? Oats? Rye? What I've found is the majority are whole wheat. I suspect wheat allergies to skyrocket in the future.

Soy has been linked to breast cancer in several studies. Yet this stuff has been making it's way into all kinds of foods and unless you read the label you won't know it. Soy tends to show up in sauces, dairy products, creamers etc. Be sure to read labels.

Low fat products. These can be dairy, snacks, cookies, cakes, soups etc. Let's talk about dairy. In the past decade we've seen the almond milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, rice milk, soy milk right next to cows milk. They cost more, you get less but are the really better for you? Could this trend be causing more harm by flooding your body with over abundance? The rule should be everything in moderation.

So what have I done? I eat something different every morning, every lunch, every dinner, I buy Italian bread one week, rye the next, white the next. No wheat bread.

Breakfast example for a week: eggs, homemade hash browns(1 potato shredded), yogurt; oatmeal old fashioned w/dates, cinnamon & banana; homemade pancakes (white flour) or waffles & 2 sausage links or 1/2 c applesauce; chocolate cream of wheat, 1/2 c blueberries; 1 slice of toast with black beans, salsa w/basted egg on top.

With this example I had wheat once with breakfast (cream of wheat). Do the same with lunches & dinners. The variety works the body's digestive system in a healthy way. It's been a year since my almond throat itching. I ate an almond the other day and am happy to say my throat did not itch. But in the future all things will only be eaten with the most variety I can so I can stay allergy free.wheat.jpeg

Un oh. I am damn near addicted to soy sauce. Your mention of chocolate cream of wheat, loved it as a kid and now. Good article. I believed you are correct in changing things up. The different breads idea is great. As are your different breakfast strategies. Thanks for these ideas.

I like to escape the box quite often. It's the rebel in me.
Did you know the original food pyramid was half the current recommendations? 3 slices of bread per day, 2 servings vegetables & fruits. I was reading about the food pyramids and a professor was saying there was no proof that eating the massive amounts of vegetables , fruits & grains made you more healthy. I think he said it was linked to seed & grain companies profits!!
I wonder if the guy is still alive or if he was killed for speaking the truth.
