1. 面有菜色 miàn yǒu CÀI sè / miann yeou TSAY she {VEGGIE Pancake}
2. 有為青年 yǒu wéi qīngnián / yeou wei chingnian* {Cheese Pancake*} {年 nian “year” sounds exactly the same as 黏 “sticky” [hot cheese is sticky]}
3. 年年有魚 nián nián yǒu YÚ / nianx yeou YU. {Tuna FISH Pancake} {年年有餘 is an auspicious expression meaning “may you/we be blessed with a SURPLUS every year” {魚 YU sounds exactly the same as 餘 “SURPLUS”}
4. 有條有理 yǒu TIÁO yǒu lǐ / yeou TYAU yeou lii “well organized” {BACON Pancake: bacon “has STRIPES”, has a pattern}

These two one-minute videos from CTS report on the complaints voiced by some parents who feel that the lunch provided on the first day of school in Changhua (Central Taiwan) was wholly inadequate for young growing bodies. The authorities explain that Monday happened to be a meatless day, and that the selection changes daily.

The lunch consisted of Hóngluóbo chǎodàn, qīngcài, yìpán dòufu, yìwǎn gǒuqǐ dōngguā tāng / Horngluo.bo chaodann, chingtsay, yihparn dow.fuu, yihwoan goouchii donggua tang “Fried eggs with shredded carrots, a green vegetable, a portion of bean curd and a bowl of wintermelon soup with goji berries”

Note that 菜色 càisè / tsay seh is also used independently in these videos to mean “[today's] selection of dishes”

Also note how most adults (apart from the reporters and the board of education rep) speak in Southern Min dialect, while the children chatter away in Mandarin. Changhua is a conservative farming area, a DPP stronghold.
