Good evening steemits, how have you all been. In reference to the foodfightfriday initiative, I bring to you a a popular Yoruba food pounded yam and melon soup. Below are the pictures of the two.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR THE MELON SOUP
- Palm oil
- Dried fish
*Grinded melon seeds mixed with little water
- Cow skin
- Locust beans
- Ugwu leaves
- Boiled chicken and cow skin
- Salt
- Seasoning with curry and thyme(optional)
PROCESS
I'll be giving a pictorial explanation of how the soup is being made.
- Add palm oil to a dry pot on medium heat.
- Add the mixed grinded melon seed bit by bit to the hot palm oil and fry and remain little for later.
- Add boiled stew to it and stir.
- Add locust beans and stir.
- Add the cow skin and stir.
- Add the remaining grinded melon seed to. It and stir.
- Add dried fish.
- Add curry and little water.
- Add thyme.
- Add seasonings
- Add salt.
- Add the vegetables and stir thoroughly.
- Allow it to cook a bit and turn off the heat. Then the soup is ready to serve.
- I fried the boiled chicken till its crispy brown.
PROCESS FOR PREPARING THE POUNDED YAM
Its for evening food and the pounded yam must be eating as hot as it is when prepared. It cant be put inside warmer if not it will spoil. This is why it was prepared late and my phone was down i was unable to take initial preparation pictures but i will explain.
- To prepare the pounded yam, the yam is peeled rinsed and boiled till its soft.
- The yam is them put inside the mortal and pounded with a pestle till its fulling pounded.
- It is then put inside a nylon and wrapped.
SERVED FOOD.
