A Taste of Local Kaamatan Delicacies

I attended our network NGO organisation yesterday with @kilathecla. I missed the morning event as we have to finish some work in the office. We arrived at Pacos Trust around noon. Luckily they didn't start lunch yet, otherwise I won't be able to take these photos.

Local Delicacies

One of the program featured in the Pacost Trust Kaamatan celebration was the Local food delicacies competition. I was so excited to see so many traditional food served by the participants. I always fond of Sabahan local food because it non-toxic and free of pesticides. All these foods are taken from the natural resources like the forest and river.

Sayur kampung, bambangan kinoing and Pinansakan bosungan.
(Local vegetables, wild mangoes mixed with salted fish and home-style Kadazan-Dusun dish of fish simmered with takob-akob).

Hinava Tontiduk is actually a banana heart or banana blossom, mixed with lime juice, bird's eye chili, onions and salt.

Bosou Taduk is a signature dish for KadazanDusun. Here Bosou is mixed with Taduk, a local vegetable in Sabah. The smell of this dish is strong, yet the taste is uniquely delicious.

Hinava Sada is a Sushi in KadazanDusun version. As you can see in the photo, fresh raw fish was cut into small pieces and mixed with Bitter Gourd, onions and lime to make it taste sour and fresh.

Tasty cooked small Shrimp caught from the river.

This is Groundnuts, Green Pumpkin or Water Pumpkin- inside there's a soup, and underneath that Banana leaf is the Pinarasakan.

Local Spinach mixed with garlic and salt.

Tinimbu Vagas Kampung is local rice porridge.

All these dish delicacies were served for lunch. I have the opportunity to taste some of these food that you can only find during Kaamatan festival. There are a few restaurant like Sino-Taste restaurant at Penampang and D'place at Kota kinabalu which serves these type of food for a reasonable price. Kaamatan is the only time you could have a taste of these local delicacies for free!

I really enjoyed the food served. Last but not the least, a selfie is a must.
