Sunday's yummies! 😋

Weekends are for family time to enjoy being together as well as for many Malaysians, meals together! Malaysians love their food!

Well, as they say, the family that eats together, stays together!
And Malaysians, know eating best!! 😋

Here's a little round-up of the yummies we enjoyed yesterday...

I thought I would start with this, 'Rojak Johor' first, even though I actually had it for dinner!
'Rojak' = mix, 'Johor' = a state south of peninsular Malaysia
It had a lovely topping of salad - lettuce and zucchini - and looks wonderful in the photo! 🙂
You get to select what pieces you want - from boiled potatoes, tofu, 'kueh' (a flour dough shrimp/onion mix which is a wonderful comfort food), fish cake, fish balls and many others... The vendor then drops them into hot oil for a fast deep fry (the outside gets wonderfully crispy) before dishing it with a generous serving of salad on top.
And a version of peanut sauce on the side!

So... Breakfast ~ was 'Wantan mee' (noodles) in 'kwan loh' (dry) style!
Comes with 'siew yok' (roast pork) and fried wantan (dumplings);
wantan also comes in soup if preferred...

We also got 'char kueh'
(Chinese traditional plain crullers, goes wonderfully well with anything...)
My wantan soup was excellent for dunking the crullers in! (see below)
They absorb all tastes and makes everything better!

We were at an old Chinese village near home that has all the best of traditional Chinese breakfasts! That includes sweet and strong black coffee in those old-fashioned coffee cups and you can dunk that 'char kueh' in while its hot - in fact this is about the only time I order black coffee!

If you're not a fan of black coffee and want something cold instead, I would recommend their iced lemon tea... Strong and with thick cut lemon slices
Wonderful choice for the current Malaysian hot spell...
We actually ordered this after the meal to wash everything down!

To round-up the food for this Sunday, after the rather large breakfast, we had a late lunch - this is a mini serving of 'Thai Laksa' ~ white rice noodles with lots of shredded cucumber and thick savoury sweet sour fish gravy... and for dessert, 'Bubur Cha cha', which has yam, sweet potato and sago in a coconut milk soup/sweet gravy!

And that's kinda what being Malaysian is about ~ wonderful food! Lol...
