This is one of the best and the easiest cooking recipe for Hilsa fish (in Bengali Ilish). The Hilsa fish is the soft corner for all the Bengali throughout the World. The fish is very tasty itself and doesn't require many spices, its having own flavor.
This recipe can be tried with milkfish also.

Steps to cook

Marinate the cleaned fish pieces (5 pieces I took) with salt and turmeric and keep it aside.

Take 3 tablespoons of mustard seeds(White mustard preferable), green chilies (as per your taste) and make a smooth paste with water.

Add scraped coconut, salt, turmeric powder and 1 spoon of mustard oil to the mustard paste and mix all together well.

Now put the fish pieces in this mixture and marinate together for 10 - 15 minutes.

Finally, take a cooking vessel (non-stick pan preferable) and take mustard oil 1 spoon. Then put all the mixture along with fish pieces and add little water (if you feel the mixture is too thick) as we are going to steam it for next 15-20 minutes with covering the pan with a tight lid. You can even make it in a cooker but do not wait for the whistle. In cooker just keep it for 10 or 15 minutes maximum. Just switch off the Gas before whistling of the cooker.

Garnish with coriander leaf and green chilies (optional)

White rice is perfect to enjoy this preparation.
