Eintracht Frankfurt ensured that Bayern Munich boss, Jupp Heynckes did not end his fourth spell at the club on a high with a 3-1 defeat of the league champions to deny them the double and send forth the Bayern coach on a low.

Bayerm Munich had already been crowned champions but that did not stop Niko Kovac to show his impending employers what he is made of.

Frankfurt took the lead against the run of play in the 11th minute after on-loan James Rodriguez was caught in position, allowing Kevin-Prince Boateng to play in Ante Redic who slotted past Sven Ulreich in goal.

The Bavarians missed a host of chances before finally getting their equaliser just eight minutes after the restart. A Joshua Kimmich cross off the toe of Robert Lewandoski took a deflection off Omar Mascarell to wrong foot goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

It was not until with about eight minutes to go that the drama began to unfold. First it was Ante Redic getting on the scoresheet again although they were claims of a handball in the build-up to the goal but after consulting with the VAR, the referee allowed the goal and Bayern's search for another equaliser was initiated.

It was not to be for Bayern as they were denied a penalty in the 94th minute of stoppage time after Kevin-Prince Boateng appeared to have fouled Javi Martinez but the referee gave a corner kick instead. It was from the resulting corner that Frankfurt scored the third. Goalkeeper Sven Ulreich had come all the way to partake in the corner kick, only for Frankfurt to break on the counter attack and Gacinovic feeding on the acres of space afforded him to kill the game with his team's third.
