Stoke City has left the Premier League

in football •  6 years ago

10-years residence in English football elite became to an end for Stoke City. Despite the another perfectly taken free kick by star man Xherdan Shaqiri, Potters lost their game against Crystal Palace 1:2 at 37th EPL gameweek and missed the chance to avoid the relegation.

Stoke City has joined Premier League in 2008 and spent 10 quite satisfying seasons so for the most football audience became some kind of surprise.

  • Stoke City is the first relegated EPL club of season 2017/18
  • This season, the team was led by Mark Hughes and then by Paul Lambert

Yes Stoke City has left the Premier League, i hope see again very fast.

I thought Lambert had reawakened the fighting spirit in them. I expected them to be relegated but not so easily. It's alright though. .. They can always fight for a place

Probably Stoke made huge mistake when they got rid of Tony Pulis and changed their playing philosophy. Under Pulis they were quite successful bunch of cut-throats.

Agreed. Things kind of went downhill following his departure. I don't think they'll spend too long in the championship though... I hope they get back up next season

I think they've made a big mistake to let Mark Hughes go, as he's been outstanding for them for many years despite the club not having invested a lot of money in the transfer market.

Agree, kicking out the manager in the middle of the season isn't good idea

i wonder if hughes can get a second team relegated as well. glad to see charlie adam go down if im honest.

Lol. What's wrong with Charlie Adam? :)

I'm a Spurs fan. I've seen him do Bale's leg in twice and some other nasty stuff. Not my favorite footballer.

Fair enough then!

shaqiri from winning the triple with Bayern to relegated with Stoke

That's life, man

I know hughs had a a pretty terrible run but overall he was fairly consistant and after they let him go they continued to slip in the table also some poor management of players. Shaquiri was the only bright spark in that team, they let Bojan, Affelay and Anutovic go and had an ageing central midfield in Adam, Fetcher and Ireland

Big money signings like Berihino, Imbula and Wimmer didn't work out and it all culminated in playing 37 year old crouch upfront and failing miserably in trying to stay up

Stoke was built on a rock-solid defence and its something they don't have anymore and will need to relook their style of football since they dont have that hard man core anymore

I think the team will get picked apart soon with Imbula, Butland, Wimmer, Berahino, Choupa-Moting, Indi, Shaqiri and Shawcross will leave in the summer if offers come in

Good point, mister! Big changes are inevitable that's for sure. We believe Stoke should return to their basics, build tough-guy squad and get themselves new Rory Delap asap, of course :)
Also we got a feeling that Shawcross will stay at the club but who knows..
