And for all of the doom and gloom predictions regarding the Salute to America event in Washington D.C., yesterday, we're all still here this morning. The sun is coming up in the east, I hear birds chirping outside, and people are going about their daily Friday routines.
Where was all of the discontent and hate and incivility when previous presidents gave speeches on the 4th of July? Yes, President Trump isn't the first and likely won't be the last to do so. Harry S. Truman, Presidents Woodrow Wilson, John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan have all gone before President Trump.
The 4th of July, is a time for Americans to gather together for cookouts and parades. To hear civic leaders and politicians of the local, state and national variety drone on about whatever their topic of the day might be. Occasionally, one of those giving a speech will wax eloquent and possibly even inspire those gathered. And during such events a performance from the Navy's flight demonstration team, or thethe Air Force's flight demonstration team just might be in order.
And then as the sun has set on the 4th of July, what better way to finish off the day, than a display of fireworks. We've done this for 243 years, and I'd let those who were wringing their hands and fearful of the sky falling, that this type of 4th of July celebration will likely continue for another 243 years or more.
