I am in a group here at Fort Lyon called Dual Recovery and we hold our groups in this conference room This room has lots of pictures and news articles outlining the history of Fort Lyon.
Some of the buildings depicted in this room were the original buildings when it was truly an Army Fort, when General Kit Carson commanded it. In fact Kit Carson's remains are in a special mausoleum on the property at the Cemetery.
Additionally to the many things Fort Lyon used to be you may or may not know that there is a Federal National Cemetery here. Many veterans are buried here and continue to this day. It is a National Landmark. I have slideshows depicting all of that as well in upcoming posts.
