In FortNite Battle Royale there are currently two different skins that can be upgraded. When a skin is upgraded then it gains armor, headgear or a pickaxe. This new feature is really cool and I am SO glad they added it. The skins that you can currently upgrade are the Carbide skin which you get at battle-pass tier 1 and the Omega skin which you get at the last tier, (tier 100).
To upgrade a skin you need to level up in the season which means that even if you are the richest person in the world you are unable to unlock it with V-bucks. For the Carbide skin, there are unlocks every 10 levels. First, you unlock the chest piece, next you unlock the leg pieces, and so on.
The omega skin is a little bit different. You first have to reach tier 100 before you can even start the challenge meaning not many people even have unlocked the skin let alone get the full suit. The first unlock for that comes at level 25.
To make sure you get the full suit before the season ends make sure to play with friends that have the battlepass, or simply play squads. Getting kills and surviving extra long with both get you some serious XP. Leveling up your battlepass will also leave you with a 120% XP boost which will give you so much XP.
By far the fastest way to upgrade your skins is by winning. I haven't gotten enough Victory Royals to brag but even in modes like 50 vs. 50 you can get a large chunk of XP, especially if you have a few kills as well.
