A Little More About Pens

  The pens we use in our normal routine has a vast history behind. Who was the one who invented the pen for the first time? When? And how? Why the fountain pens have a specific shape? Why the pencils we use are yellow in colour? None of us knows answers to all such questions. Today we are here with some interesting facts and information on pens.

 · The first fountain pen was created in 1827 by a man named Petrache Poenaru. He was just a student and one day this idea crossed his mind. He wanted to feel the experience of writing without dipping the pen over and over again. That’s when he invented fountain pen. 

· The first gel pen was invented in 1980s. Sakura Colour Products Corporation was the first company that created these pens. This company was Japan based. After a while, US also claimed producing gel pens. · Since 1980’s pencils made were coloured yellow. This was because the Chinese associated this colour with respect and royalty. Afterwards, US also started manufactured their pencils with yellow as the outer colour.

 · Fountain pens are available in a number of styles and varieties. Parker fountain pen are entirely different from that of Lamy Pen, for instance. But all the fountain pens are created using the three same components i.e. the nib, the cap and the barrel that has the ink reservoir.

 · There’s a force called capillary force of attraction that maintains a constant rate of ink flow from the reservoir to the nib of a fountain pen.

 · Since the beginning of mankind, people have used various techniques of conveying their messages and opinions. There was a time when the only way of communication was drawing on mud using fingers. This technique was then replaced with bones and sticks used to make symbols and drawings in caves. Pens were invented after quite a time.

 · Markers we use for bright colourings were came into existence around 1870s. A very thick and bright ink was stored in Japanese factories and weren’t used for a long time. This was the highlighter ink. The owner then decided to use this ink and that’s when the markers and highlighters came into being.

 · The most expensive pen in this world is known as Aurora Diamante. Its retailing cost is $1,470,600. Its barrel is composed of platinum and it contains 30 carats of diamonds.

 · An interesting fact about a ballpoint is that it can write up to 900 meters. 2000 was the maximum writing length when it was tested on a Bic pen. 

· NASA was trying to develop a pen that can be brought up to Space but were not able to make one. Russians then tried taking up a pencil and they succeeded. This saved NASA a lot of time and millions of dollars.

 · According to research, almost 100 people die every year while choking on a pen. Around 85% of them are under the age 7. Therefore, it is recommended to not to put pens or pencils in mouth.
