These cases are high bars in the US. So that Dominion got this much is remarkable. I think they could have won in the trial, but it wasn't a sure thing. The judge had already determined that Fox lied before the trial, so Dominion had to prove malice, but still that's not necessarily easy. And this is way above Dominion's explicit damages.
