Qui s’imposera dans cette étape ? Un sprinteur ou un baroudeur ? La question mérite vraiment d’être posée. En tous cas, les coureurs passeront une partie de la journée au-delà des 1 000 mètres d’altitude sur des bosses qui rendront délicates les tentatives de contrôle serré de l’échappée.
Who will win this stage? A sprinter or a breakaway rider? The question really deserves to be asked. Whatever the outcome the riders will spend most of their day over an altitude of 1 000m on climbs that will make it hard to control potential escapees.
SAINT FLOUR 
Les deux dernières étapes arrivées à Saint-Flour restent inscrites dans l’histoire du cyclisme français. Celle de 2004 avait été marquée par Richard Virenque, vainqueur après plus de soixante kilomètres d’échappée solitaire et en route vers son septième maillot à pois. Thomas Voeckler roulait alors en jaune et retrouvait précisément ce maillot en 2011 à Saint-Flour.
The last two stages that finished in Saint-Flour could be written in capital letters in the history book of French cycling. The 2004 one had been brilliantly claimed by Richard Virenque after a 67-km solo breakaway that would also help him capture his seventh polka-dot jersey. At the time, Thomas Voeckler was wearing yellow... and would precisely reconquer that jersey in 2011 in Saint-Flour.
ALBI 
La préfecture du Tarn a été élue par L’Équipe Ville la plus sportive de France de l’année 2012, juste après avoir été honorée au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO pour la majesté de la cathédrale Sainte-Cécile, décrite comme le plus grand édifice de briques au monde. C’est l’année suivante qu’a été jugée la dernière arrivée à Albi, dominée par Peter Sagan. Le Slovaque ne se doutait pas qu’il lui faudrait encore attendre trois ans pour, à nouveau, lever les bras !
The prefecture of Tarn was voted “most sporting city of France” in 2012 by newspaper L’Équipe and that was just after being added to the UNESCO World Heritage list for the majesty of its Sainte-Cécile cathedral, described as the largest brick building in the world. It was the following year that the last finish in Albi was judged and was dominated by Peter Sagan. The Slovakian didn’t know then that he would have to wait three years before once again raising his arms on the Tour!
