You’ve had several dozen peer-reviewed, academic studies by criminologists and economists that have looked at that. What you find overwhelmingly is that allowing people to carry permit concealed handguns reduces violent crime.
The more people who carry, the greater the risks that there are to criminals attacking people, and the greater the reduction you see in crime rates.

...the National Guard did not exist until 1903.
The whole idea of the Bill of Rights, which was certainly inherent in the Second, was to keep the government under
control, and the Second deals with guns being used to keep government under control.
So the militia was aimed at the government.
Should the government start heading of in a totalitarian, dictatorial fashion, then the militia was expected and designed to step in.
