Independence Day - Is It Really?

With the 4th of July upon us in the States and many in the US traveling to spend time with family; off to their vacation spots for some fun & sun at the beaches, I've been doing a lot of reflecting. More specifically, about the Founding Fathers and what their vision for the US was and how such landscape looks today.

Looking back in history, I recall such words from those that created this nation and here are but a few:

“A republic, if you can keep it.” Not a democracy, not a democratic republic. But “a republic, if you can keep it.” - Benjamin Franklin

“…democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they are violent in their deaths.” - James Madison

“The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.” - Alexander Hamilton

Which got me to thinking in more recent times. Specifically, acclaimed Film Producer; Director Aaron Russo whom gave us the films Trading Places; Wise Guys; The Rose and just prior to his death in 2007, what would be his final film, America: From Freedom To Fascism.

For those of who have yet to view/watch this outstanding documentary, you may want to take a bit of time out of your busy schedules and have a look. Perhaps more importantly, once you've viewed the film yourself, please be sure to pass it along to as many people as possible.

Aaron was a Kind, gentle man who Loved his country but was certainly concerned about its direction.

So without further ado: America: From Freedom To Fascism
