Why I'm taking Cold Showers

For the last week, I took almost every day a cold shower. I’m saying almost every day because I am sure that I missed at least one day but, I am not sure when since I am not keeping track of it because it wasn’t an “every day” challenge, it was more of a spontaneous choice. But, as a general idea, I took a shitload of cold showers in the last week, last two weeks.

Why? Why would I deliberately put myself in such a stressful situation? It’s not because of what you think. This whole cold shower thing probably has a lot of health benefits but, that’s not the reason I did it, and, no, nor because it’s too hot outside, and I want to cool down.

My reason goes beyond any of the regular motives people might think of. I did it because it’s tough, stressful, nerve-wracking. You see, if you deliberately put yourself in intense situations then, the typical life bullshit stress will seem just like a joke. If you have a near death experience, when you come out of it, you wouldn’t give a damn about the noise that’s in your life.

But, you don’t need almost to die to get that freedom of not caring so much about meaningless things, you can achieve a similar result through other stressful situations, like cold-showers. After you stay there, in the shower, with ice-cold water running down your body, shaking, freezing, once you come out, you surely are freer.

But, people don’t want to do it, they don’t want to leave their comfort zone, they hate cold showers, and prefer not to take them because they are weak. And, this is even more valid in our society which is filled with cunts, with soft people that are becoming softer and softer every day, thanks to their parents who fucked them up, giving prizes even to the last places.

People are still crying because somebody called them somehow, because somebody hurt their feelings but, if you’re on your path, if you’re committed to something greater then, you don’t have ears to hear the sea of mediocrity, their opinion means shit to you. But, they don’t know that, they let their emotions get influenced by anybody.

And, the issue’s even worse! If a while ago people were complaining that somebody picked up on them in real life, now, they are complaining about everything. People get offended by commercials, about the opinions of people they don’t even know, about truth, only because they are fucking soft!

You ain’t gonna see that kind of people taking cold showers; their little soy-boy balls would fall off but, that’s good. It’s great news because now, you have the biggest chance in history to win since there’s no competition, nobody’s training anymore. World-class athletes are playing fucking Fortnite, regular people are caught up in bullshit crying over anything, and you, you have the chance to beat them all.

If you start building up that carefree muscle, becoming focused, and training every day to become the best at your thing, then, you have a tremendous chance to reach the top.

So, dear reader, I challenge you now to take some cold showers, and become a bigger, better person or, to fuck off, and go back to your life of mediocrity, shit food, and comfort. You pick.

Thanks for sharing this awesome post with us. It has reminded the life i went through when I was an infant. Yes. When I was a very small baby just learning to walk.

How can you raise your kid without fear? I couldn't possibly think of one good way.

As for all kids, my mom used to bathe me. And what she did was, she used to bathe me in cold water. Obviously, as a baby I wasn't consciously aware of this.

I grew, now I became a kid whose memories I now clearly retain. I vividly remember, my mom insisted me to bathe without using the heater. I replied to her
"Ma but that other day I bathed in hot water. And it felt so pleasant :/ "

To which she replied, "When you stand infront of the shower of cold water, do you feel scared to take the plunge into it?"

Me:"Yes mom. It's so cold."

Mom:"But how does it feel after you take the plunge? Bad?"

Me: "Umm..no."

Mom: " Exactly. It's not bad after you have started bathing with cold water. Its only till you overcome that tipping point. Once you are over it, it's fine. So what stops you from crossing from your comfort zone, and beyond into the tipping point is your fear. This is a small way of testing yourself if you are scared. If you continue to bathe in hot water, and get used to being in your comfort zone, you might develop a mentality to accepts things as they come. You will never stand up for anything. You will never feel the need to get out of your comfort zone. So please remember this always and bathe in cold water. This is one small step is to get you a strong fighting spirit in life!!!"

I can still clearly remember her words.
And may be that small step was the reason for me to take a leap of faith in life and choose starting up over working.

That's one of the best stories I've heard in a long time! Your mom knows what she's talking about; she seems like a brave woman. She's completely right; people have to take more leaps and leave their comfort zone more often. Too bad that most parents teach their kids the opposite, which resulted in this whole generation of scared and lost millennials.

I have a similar story; I remember that my dad used to take me swimming in summer at the lake, even if I was a kid. The water wasn't ice-cold but, it was still cold enough for a 3-4 years old kid. Those experience helped me never to fear water thus, I learned swimming at a very young age.

I got into the habit of cold showers after a team member (ultimate frisbee) told me it helps your body recover after an intense workout. And it really does! Also, temperatures have been soaring here these weeks, so that helps ;). Nice read! And agreed, anything that helps us to toughen up a little, move away from our petty drama - we should incorporate more of that into our lives!!

Yes, it does help you after a workout, I heard people going from hot to cold water, to recover. It is great for sure to cool down in this weather, I can't wait for the winter to come and take some cold showers then. :))

Most people just try to take the path of least resistance, and never leave their comfort zone but, that only makes the weaker, softer.

Cold showers can be very invigorating... and painful. Managing to stay in for any lengthy period is difficult under the ice cold water. The reward of some nice hit chocolate is so much more enjoyable having had to earn it.

The hardest part is getting into the shower but, after the water hit your whole body, it becomes enjoyable, refreshing, and that's the only reward I need. Also, I found an interesting thing, instead of setting up rewards, set up punishments because the fear of losing something will motivate you way more.

Comfort zone is the safe place to stay for some people

Yes, but it's also a place that kills growth, and innovation.

Agree with you.. Thats why sometimes we have to take a risk and left the comfort zone

Ice baths

Yes, that actually makes a lot of sense because when you're cold, your pituitary gland sends a signal to your thyroid, which controls your metabolism, to release thyrotropin to raise your body's temperature but, it also burns fats. Something along those lines.

Ice baths seem a bit extreme but, I might take one in the future.

In Kundalini yoga we have a very elaborate cold shower routine. I've been too much of a pussy to try cold showers. I'll have to get into it. Hubby says you get a nice dopamine release, too. He's all about finding those non-substance non-consuming ways of getting good brain chemicals.

Ice baths seem a bit extreme but, I might take one in the future.

Maybe you can make a video like Cole did.

I just got out of a cold shower about an hour ago; you have to try it as soon as possible. It's just amazing, it's tough but, the reward it's damn worth it. Also, look into Wim Hof, and his breathing method, you'll surely love it.

Well there is much more to cold showers than just this. They energize you and yes they release a few really useful hormones to get through the day (plus boost testosterone in men for muscle building or whatever else ;) ). But I personally can not take a really cold shower before sleep as it energizes me too much and makes me restless. Hot showers on the other hand are the best before sleep so in conclusion start your day with a cold & quick shower and finish it with a nice & warm one :)

Yes, they do have a lot of health benefits but, I think that the psychological ones are going to impact the people the most, at least, those are the ones I'm pursuing. I usually don't take cold showers at night either, mostly in the middle of the day, after I started working, and I tend to get tired so that I can freshen up myself. :)

Does jumping into 15 degrees mountain water count too?

That's what I do, every couple of days, out here.

I used to be the little boy shivering at the side of the swimming pool. It wasn't necessarily the water that bothered me though, it was all the chlorine ( back in the 80s). It wasn't helping my already sensitive lungs.

It's awesome to actually bathe and swim in natural water. I'm loving it :>)

In the end, feel it's all about balancing between leaving your comfort zone and staying inside of it.

By the way, slowly walking into cold water is the hardest thing to do. It gives you too much time to think and reconsider what you're doing. I always make sure to either run, jump or dive into cold water.

Uhm, I guess it kinda counts. I have a lake nearby too where I like to go swimming every now, and then so I know what you mean. It's amazing but, I find it easier than cold showers.

I never liked the swimming pools that much either, that chlorine was always hurting my eyes like crazy because I used to open my eyes under the water as a kid.

Yes, jump right into it, it's easier, faster, hehe.
