How To Decrease Violence

in freedom •  7 years ago

If a law deters more violence than it requires for enforcement then its net effect is to reduce violence and those who support that law are creating a less violent society.

History proves it doesn't work that way. Most laws actually CAUSE violence against people who are not being violent at all. I highly recommend you read the book FREEDOM! I recommended or listen to the audiobook.

Violence is wrong except in defense. The Non-Aggression Principle says that any aggression is wrong except in defense. That takes care of violence.

Steven Pinker's "Better Angels" book shows that we are currently living in the LEAST violent times the human race has ever experienced. A person alive today is less likely to die a violent death than at any previous time. I contend that is largely because of enforcement of laws against people being violent to each other. If and when enforcement comes to violence, I think it is best seen as a collective form of self defense.

I've seen articles on that. And, I've seen statistics. Violence has decreased but it can be decreased further. Governments are the leading causes death in the world today. Do you know how many innocent civilians are killed by drone strikes?

Do you know what Democide is? It's the killing of civilians by their own government. In the last 100 years, over 250 million people were killed by their own government.
