There are many memes that illustrate Libertarianism as something ridiculous, but they are actually Anti-Freedom propaganda pieces, because they skew the meaning of Libertarianism, and make it look ridiculous. Well Freedom should never be ridiculous, but certain people have slavery fetishes who just love to be slaves, voluntarily.

I am going to debunk in this article the most ridiculous memes here, but first let me give you a context. As you may know I am an Individualist, one of the lesser known factions of the Liberty movement, so I will debunk the memes from my point of view.

But first let's compare the different forms of governances. What I mean by anti-government, just simply means that the individual is in charge, or that we break down society to it's basic element, the individual, and let the individual govern itself. These are the only forms of governance that exist, everything else is a mixture of these:

State-Only CapitalismCorporate CapitalismMixed Capitalism (Corporate + Individual)Mixed Capitalism (Corporate + Individual)Individual Capitalism

Alright, now that you know the political spectrum of slavery, you know that I as an Individualist stand for maximum Freedom. Let's see those memes:

1) "The Idiot that Thinks that Nazis are almost Freedom" - Meme

An interesting one, the author of this must have been drunk or something when creating this, but let me address this:

  • First statement is OK
  • No State, we need to develop a swarm defense system, just like ants, where individualist voluntarily come together to defend their area, and after the threat is neutralized, they disband and go home.
  • You can have trade unions if you want, but people will quickly realize that its not efficient, because it's better if you trade with everyone, it is more efficient.
  • Pro immigration, people can move freely where they want, except if they trespass on your property
  • I'm absolutely OK with abortion, and homosexuality. We should not interfere in other people's lives, and respect their sovereignty.
  • Race Mixing? This argument must come from some Nazis who are obsessed with their stupid Aryan race. The truth is that all kinds of races have attractive and ugly people, and the attractive people will always mix together, because of sexual drive, and their "attractiveness" genes will be inherited by their offsprings, making them more attractive, and accelerating the mixing process. So "Race Mixing" is unavoidable, until people have their libido. But I guess these stupid Nazis are obsessed with their Aryan race.

2) "The Idiot that Thinks that Collectivism = Individualism" - Meme

  • Well first of all corporations are government institutions that are privately managed, so you can't even have a corporation with all it's privileges and protections, so let's just call it a private enterprise instead.
  • There are no billionaires in a free society, because everyone has the opportunity to get rich, and wealth inequality will be very small.
  • Own all land and resources? How do you do that? What this jerk meant to say is that, he wants to start a Government, not a Corporation. Because only a Government has Allodial Right Monopoly over a territory.
  • So he is actually right, what he is saying is that he wants to start a State, and that is impossible, if all people are Individualists

3) Oh my God

Oh my God, I can't even describe how ludicrous and insulting this one is. It is just above nonsense. And this kind of logic just shows how brainwashed most of the people are.

The 16 years of child indoctrination and the mainstream media propaganda is really efficient to create such morons like the author of this. Seriously these people are literally afraid of freedom, and want to be eternal slaves.

These kind of people don't even deserve freedom if we want to be fair, but I would still give them freedom, because I am a nice guy.

I have a few comments and criticisms to tender about this post.

1: Your table of systems of governments and their attitudes has a couple of problems.

  • Communists, even the Vanguardist Marxist-Leninists of the USSR, would not agree with your characterisation of communism as "big government". A core tenet of Marxism is the "withering away of the state". They maintain that, once workers obtain free and equal association, there will be no need for governing bodies or legal frameworks. I think this is utopian, but at the very least, the end goal of communism is a stateless society, where production lines are administrated democratically. (It follows that communism would also be against state capitalism.)

  • Libertarianism has left-wing and right-wing variants. This table only describes right-liberarianism. If right-libertarianism is adjacent to anarcho-capitalism, then left-libertarianism is adjacent to anarcho-syndicalism, and is immensely important in any account of government systems (it is the original form of libertarianism, after all).

2: Your criticism of the last two memes overlooks their main thrust. Critics of right-libertarianism argue that very strong property rights result in the accumulation of political and industrial capital by property owners. A land owner has a greater opportunity for wealth (rent streams, production lines, etc) than someone who doesn't own land. This additional wealth permits the acquisition of more land, which generates more wealth. Small inequalities grow to larger inequalities as land owners use their increased bargaining power to become bigger land owners, while people who don't own land are forced to commodify their labour.

You might argue that the difference between a land owner and a non-land-owner is the former initially obtained land by hard work, while the latter was lazy and unproductive. Your left-libertarian interlocutor would interject and say "Even if this is true, it is only true in the beginning. As generations give way to the next, the primary means of acquiring land is inheritance, not hard work".

tl;dr version

  1. Your table incorrectly describes communism, and leaves out important schools of socialism that emphasise decentralisation and liberty.

  2. The memes in question rest on the socialist assumption that land and capital will naturally accumulate into the hands of a small number of people. These people will be immensely powerful, and can subjugate everyone else. You do not really address this assumption.
