There was a free movie on National Aboriginal Day and it's also Summer Solstice! The movie was called Elder In The Making. Here is a link to the website so you can check it out! - http://elderinthemaking.com/ It was a really good show! For me the show had local significance. It is about a Chinese man who wants to learn more about the history of where he lives and grew up - The city of Calgary in Alberta Canada. I was born in Calgary myself! He meets an Blackfoot Aboriginal man who he befriends and goes on a road trip to some historical locations relevant to native people and the history of Alberta.
Watching the movie made my day and reminded me to stay active and aware of the cultural legacy we have in North America. They talked about ecocide against the Buffalo. The colonialists exterminated the buffalo herd which devastated First Nations People. They were ravaged by the European diseases. I myself met an Elder Grandmother who was the last full blood of The Bear Clan last time I was in B.C. Her family died from tuberculosis.
In 2014 I went to the Mount Polley Mine disaster in Likely B.C. where pristine waters known for purity worldwide were now devastated! These are waters on a prominent salmon run!! Awful! Green algae plumes exploded the water right away! You can look it up online yourself and even watch the aerial footage! I stayed with the Native people there for an evening at their protest camp. Talked with people directly effected. If the fish goes the culture goes. The mining company Imperial Metals remains arrogant and indifferent towards the people. Disgusting. Ecocide happens to this day!!! The companies have lawyers who try to shut the people up. It's time to fight back and not let those companies get away with this!
Later in the evening I saw my friend practicing Tai Chi! It made me feel good to see her smooth movements! My second cousin did Tai Chi many years ago and I got that good feeling from watching him back then. Now I get to see the same vibe in my family friend! I think I will get back into Tai Chi more myself too!! I like to be body aware and aware of my surroundings. It's all about balance.
