Day 132 Freewrite. Prompt: Gardening

When my brother was about ten, he decided to take up gardening in the little patch of dirt that was our front garden. One little problem was he didn’t have any money for plants. We lived in a local authority slum where ne’er a weed could flourish, but through a little laneway opposite us was an estate of privately owned houses where there were plush
pastures of posh plants aplenty.

My brother, being of the whatever’s expedient persuasion, began nightly plant liberation raids using my mother as a lookout. My mother, a proud proponent of the anything goes as long as you don’t get caught school of thought, was always a game participant in any shady scheme.

Suffice to say our garden resembled something of a lush jungle before I happened upon their dastardly doings and, as a fully paid up member of the Anarchist brotherhood, persuaded them as to the error of their ways.
