This will be my seventeenth 5 minute #freewrite here in the Steemiverse. Today's writing prompt is Stem which you can read about it here. So now, without further ado...
Mike waited anxiously outside the school gates. He looked at his watch and although the time hadn't changed since he last looked at it, he knew he would keep repeating the action until Matilda eventually turned up.
"Hey, Mike!" She called, waving at him. "Over here." She beckoned to where she was standing. There was a small group standing with her. He groaned. He hadn't thought there'd be anybody else. But why wouldn't there be? Matilda was always surrounded by hangers on. She was one of the popular kids.
Mike walked over to the group and smiling shyly said, "Hey." Everybody made room for him and Beth smiled at him. He liked Beth. She lived close by to him and they'd both gone to the same Karate class when they were kids.
"How's it going?" Beth said as he walked up and joined the group. He didn't know where his lack of confidence stemmed from but he knew he didn't like being in groups. He felt awkward and shy.
