I am a lover of food, and one of the things I like to do is to make dishes from scratch, but let me tell you about what I will NOT make from scratch anymore.
Layered cakes.
Here's the backstory: I was in a zone of making all different types of layered cakes for the house. Italian creme, carrot, red velvet, chocolate...I was making them all. This particular day, I made an Italian creme cake for the house. The layers had come out perfectly, but unfortunately, my made-from-scratch cream cheese icing was not as stiff as I like it. I think I beat the mixture a little too long or something. Anyway, I ended up putting toothpicks in the layers to hold them together and put the cake in the fridge.
When my husband went to get a slice of cake, I mentioned to him that he would have to be careful because there were toothpicks in the cake to hold it together.
He exploded in anger, telling me that it was DANGEROUS that I put toothpicks in the cake, and that I needed to go and dig ALL the toothpicks out of the cake - RIGHT THEN. I looked at him and told him he could get them out as he gets a slice with one in there, and it was not a big deal. A lot of times people would leave toothpicks in their cakes and it doesn't hurt anyone. They are just more aware of the toothpicks.
He told me to get them out RIGHT THEN...over and over and over.
I ended up scraping the top layer into crumbs while getting the toothpicks out of the cake.
Once they were gone, he was okay again and said in all seriousness "Don't you ever do anything like that ever again!"
At that very moment, my blood was boiling. I was over the top angry because I destroyed a nice looking cake just to get some stupid toothpicks out so he would not have to do it himself. I WAS DONE. I looked at him and said, "No problem."
He has not gotten a layered cake from me since that event.
My office still gets my baked and frosted layered cakes, and a few of my friends will still get layered cakes from me. As for my house, I am only making bundt cakes or sheet cakes. If anyone wants a layered cake (that includes me), then it will be purchased from a bakery.
My first free-write is DONE! (Longer than 6 minutes, but I had to clean it up.)

He does and he is just fine, @shanibeer.
It does make him jealous when he sees a cake going to someone else. But he made that choice, and he hasn’t said anything when I make a sheet cake or a Bundt cake for us.

Daaaaaang....your husband better appreciate you, because that man would never get any kind of cake from me again, until he repented! (says the woman who went on a several-years-long strike from baking apple pie for a similar outburst). That was an awful way for him to talk to you :(
