It's sad but majority of people in my country believe that a fair skin is beautiful. Skin color determines beauty here. No matter how much people want to hide their beliefs its very evident from the fact that cosmetic brands manufacturing skin whitening products are flourishing in the country.

Today, I happened to call a very dear family friend who had helped me care for my elder son while I was busy studying. The lady knows me for over 9 years now and is familiar with my extended family.
She has not met my younger one and so we , me and my you get son' were on a video call with her when I told her that my cousin had delivered a baby girl, she said, she knew as she had seen the pics on Facebook and praised the baby's looks. The baby is actually damn cute and when I was telling her about the baby's name and other details she stopped me by saying, "why are your son's so dark while your cousin's daughters are milky white ?". I told her that both the parents there are fair and I and my husband have darker complexion compared to them and we have no issues with it. She went o. To tell me " had your son's been a little fairer, they would have looked great".
I wanted to argue, but didn't because there is no way I can change their minds. They would pretend to agree with me for a while then later talk behind my back. I don't understand the fixation with fairness. My sons may not be the most handsome guys on Earth, but for me they are.
I have often seen that people judge others on the basis of their beauty. They simply fail to understand that outer beauty may fade In sometime but inner beauty always stays, so instead of applying those skin whitening cream on your faces apply some soul cleansing cream on your sould and cleanse it.
I feel your situation here. I too live in a country where complexion determines beauty. And it fucking sucks.
