Lisa, Selene, and Larry walked briskly to the park. They were all terribly excited to find out whether Samson was back to being a big brother instead of a big bird. The entrance to the park was deserted, but over by the playground equipment, in the same spot where they had met Larry just yesterday, stood a tall, slender, smiling young man. Curly blonde hair topped his handsome face, which featured sea-blue eyes and a trim beard and mustache. Larry hurled himself into the young man's arms, exclaiming, "Samson! It worked! It worked! Lisa did it!" Samson patted Larry's head comfortingly, but his eyes were on Lisa, who found herself blushing.
Disentangling himself from Larry, Samson stepped over to Lisa and bowed slightly. "Thank you so much," he said, his deep voice causing Lisa's heart to pound a little faster. "This has been an extremely awkward situation for all of us. But my time as a bird with a very limited vocabulary has taught me the importance of communication. I guess you know I've been admiring you at work for a long time. I wasn't going to say anything to you until Larry and I were more settled, but the cat's out of the bag now. I do hope you'll allow me to spend some time with you as a person, and not as a macaw. What do you say?"
For once, Selene said nothing to fill the brief silence that followed. Lisa felt suddenly shy, now that she was face-to-face with this attractive young man with love in his eyes. "Perhaps we could all go have dinner somewhere," she finally suggested. "I'm sure we are all hungry."
Samson broke into a huge grin of relief. "Great idea!" he exclaimed. Then, with a mischievous expression, he added, "As long as we go to a restaurant where there is no mango. I ate too much of that when I was a macaw!" So everyone was laughing as they walked out of the park together.
Author's note: I considered several possible endings to this story. None of the others were this uncomplicated. But I decided 30 episodes were enough, and I want to get back to writing the usual sort of freewrite. So I came up with a simple, happy ending and called it good!
