#freewriting - Hell on earth

in freewrite •  6 years ago

Once upon a time I wrote a story.
It was all about a box. A box found somewhere in an empty house.
The weird thing about that box is it was not there as the people who lived there moved out. The only things left behind were a bed, a very old fridge still working in the shed and... a rice pie. (Why the pie was left behind nobody knows.)
How I know about that box? Well I did live in that house. Also... once upon a time and I can assure you there was no box.

There was no other option as leaving, it was hell on earth.
They had to fled, they knew what their mother was capable to. So they fled. Fled for their lives. Three little children with 2 small bikes. They found their way back home. Home was about 80 miles away.
Late in the evening they arrived. Wet because of the rain, tired and most of all afraid. At first they stayed in the shed, ate the rice pie and tried to keep warm.

Since it was too cold they broke a window, went into the house and did hide in the attic. They heard voices and were scared to death to be discovered.
One of the children did find a box. It was found as they tried to hide so they wouldn't be discovered.

Flashlights, voices... someone did call the police!
Of course the police discovered them. How may you ask? Well one its legs were too long... the child could not hide itself in the small corner. It really tried since fear is a nasty enemy and it eats you.
It kept the box close to it and hoped the police would leave. It tried to focus at the box. Perhaps something was hidden inside?

"Here they are", a voice shouted."
The flashlight was shining into the faces of 2 children. They were dragged out, did not speak a word. Refused to answer questions who they were and where they lived.
One child was still hidden, it hoped...
Suddenly a flashlight did shine at her feet...
"Here is an other one a police officer said. At the same moment the child did open the box. It must have been a magical moment to all of them, although they just saw a sharp, blueish light.
The child was gone, just like the box. That must have been a big surprise to all of them.

What the police decided to say about what happened or what explanation they gave to the mother I can not tell you. Yes you are right I was there, once, but I was also the one with the box, the one who escaped out of the realism just in time.
