Car after car, each one following the other. Snaking along the road, their lights one. What seemed like an endless line of suburbans and station wagons and sedans. You could feel the somberness of the moment as each car slowly slipped past. But to Niko, it would have been as though he was the only one on the road. Well, he kind of was, trotting his way slowly along the road, riding opposite in the family carriage.
Niko knew that the eyes observed him and his father as they passed, placing him in a neat, understandable category of oddities. Yes, he understood that this collision of modern vehicles and this horse drawn vehicle represented a time warp of sorts. A clash of histories that brought these two worlds together. What would it be like…
Horse drawn to gas powered. His imagination wandered a bit. But this he pulled himself back to reality. One should resist the movement of the age, reject the pull from the simple life.
Usually the lineup of vehicles was behind his family’s carriage. He glanced back. Today was no different. Both sides of the road had a lineup of vehicles, snaking past each other.
