Andes, a Freewrite

I had to look up Andes to write this. I knew the Andes were a mountain range, but not where. When I learned they were in the Pacific Ring of Fire, my interest was piqued. Then I came across this article in the NYTimes, and I found my dream house and property. I hope you can see the slide show without having a NYTimes subscription, because it is SPECTACULAR. The colors! The comfort! The views! THE GARDEN. Holy cow. Maybe Peru is the place for me.

Also on site are seven greenhouses and gardens with potatoes, beans, quinoa, tomatoes, broccoli and other vegetables. Eight horse stables, a training ring, a tool room, a storage shed and a sauna dot the rest of the farm. A Native American tepee with four single beds is also available for guests.

The living quarters, on the eastern side of the property, were built with locally sourced materials including Adobe mud brick, eucalyptus and pine, and inspired by the colorful architecture of the southwestern United States. On the western side is an undeveloped pasture with enough space for as many as five more cabins or extra greenhouses, Mr. Lamphier said.

But now what am I going to write to fill out this 5 minutes? I know! A nonsensical poem! Those are always fun.

A man named Andres
left his job at the taco shop
and moved to Peru

Andres went to the Andes where no one had to be told how to spell his name
a plus he hadn't expected
I wonder how often he would have had to spell his name
if it had been Anastasia?

Every damn time no doubt
just like I have to do

This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is Andes.

I can't find the name of the photographer in the NYTimes article. Is that not odd?

But I did find this interesting bit while looking for the photographer's name:

Taxes and Fees
The annual property tax on this home is about $10, Mr. Lamphier said, explaining that “Peru doesn’t assess or appraise specific property values outside the city if it’s classified as rural land.

There was once a gal named Wendy
She wore bright pink panties
She went to the Andes
Cuz she loved to eat candies

Lovely dear @owasco.

Wow very cute

$10 property tax? Wow! You can really live there, providing you work in the US. )))

Perhaps Peru is the place to be. I like your piece of poetry. I know an Andres and Anastasia by the way.
