CORNUCOPIA

Here is my entry for #fruitsandveggiesmonday by @lenasveganliving

Originally the word Cornucopia represented the symbol of abundance and nourishment with a Horn of Plenty featuring in images from as early as 1630 when Rubens painted his famous picture of the Roman goddess Abundantia. Mythology explains in detail the origins of the Cornucopia.

These days, our modern depictions focus on a hollow, horn shaped basket filled with seasonal fruit and vegetables. Many countries have incorporated the Cornucopia theme for a variety of reasons. I took this photo at the 2017 Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers which is a yearly event celebrated by the people of Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia.

(This is the same image as above but a soft texturized filter has been applied for added interest.)

Tourists come from miles around to enjoy the variety of festivals which include music, craft, nature walks, flower shows, garden displays and so much more. The city comes alive during this Spring extravaganza and I had the pleasure of admiring all that was on offer. This beautiful Cornucopia creation was displayed in St. Lukes Anglican church in Herries St.

That's so interesting with the texture.

It's a funny thing.....but when I see fresh vegetables and fruits I crave them....I have a sugar addiction I think....and I will eat and eat until I feel sick. But if there is a table to choose from - desserts and junk food vs fresh produce I'll go to the fresh table. Strange eh?

We usually have a cornucopia on our table in October and I fill it with red apples and small orange and white pumpkins.

It’s interesting to see the difference after a filter or texture is applied to an original photo @countrygirl. I have always preferred fresh vegetables to frozen and was lucky enough to have a father in law who kept us supplied in fresh fruit and vegetables for many years. It gave our 3 sons a preference for fresh, home cooked foods. Your Thanksgiving table sounds so beautiful.
