Bonneville Salt Flats

in fun •  6 years ago

This is my first day at Bonneville salt flats. I paid for a pit pass and went into the pit area. There was plenty of really cool custom vehicles and streamliners. I highly recommend getting a pit pass at Bonneville and check out the cars. You can look at the cars at the starting line, but they are all buttoned up and ready to race. You just cannot hang out in the staging lanes. You can get the best pictures of the cars, but you can't really see what is inside the cars at the starting line.

The best way to really look at these vehicles is at the pits. There is really no limits on where you can go. There are no barricades and the race teams are very welcoming and often will chat with you if they are not in a rush to fix a problem. The pit area is in the 3 to 4 mile section of the race course closest to the 8 mile "long" track. The long track is where the ultra high speed cars and streamliners are setting speed records. They normally hit their top speeds around the 3 to 5 mile sections. When a car is on the "long" track, you can take a moment to watch it as it passes by. And when the 300-400+ MPH cars pass by,.. WOW!
