The English language is a funny one we use words everyday but meanings change as we go on for example " sick " could mean " oh I do feel a bit ill , I could be sick any minute " but now it could mean it's great or cool !

So are some words that have lost there original meaning and some old words that should make a comeback !

Lucifer- no not that Lucifer ! it is actually a match that self ignites on any surface.

Go - cart is actually a baby walker.

Goody - not in the terms a sweet , it is a older lady of humble position.

Halt - did mean lame.

Host - not as in host party or game show but army.

Jade - did mean a bad tempered woman - that would be me I guess !!

Marry - not in wedding terms was meant as expression of surprise, indignation, or emphatic assertion.

Meet meant suitable or proper.

Neat - a bovine animal.

Pale did mean a area of jurisdiction.

Receipt meant a recipe.

Repair - a abode.

Shambles meant a slaughterhouse.

Truck -not the one people drive but did mean a exchange/ transaction.

Uncle - no ,not your least fave relative but a pawnbroker !

Waits - Christmas carols sung on the street.

Wife - could mean your beloved but did mean a old woman and possibly uneducated !

Now some words that should make a comeback-

Trumpery - articles of little use or value.

Tapster- person who works behind a bar or pub.

Slugabed - a lazy person who stays in bed.

Sippet- a small piece of bread for dipping into soup.

Scot - some sort of tax payment.

Pythoness- a lady who can see into the future.

Prithee - please.

Gadzooks- a expression of annoyance or surprise.

Much obliged to consider a gander ?? : )

This is great:) I wonder how we stopped using these types of words? Old English is awesome, and old cockney slang, we don’t here it as much very often. There are lots of new odd words that the youth are using nowadays that doesn’t make any sense like ‘lit’ or ‘fleek’ (I don’t know or want to know what they mean) but I wonder if it was like this once a long time ago

don't forget that silly word" reem" or " salty potatoe " which I think the last one means a good looking lady !! yes I think it would have been like that years ago the old people hearing the young ones with there slang and wondering like me - what on earth has happened to the youth of today !! and how is China anyway ??

Yes I wonder that about the youth! :)

It’s going well so far, I’m still adjusting, but I start teaching early tomorrow and have a full day, so I am just staying calm and relaxed and it will all be fine :) thank you very much for asking :)

cool , just enjoy the setting and let if flow ..... take care !

Thank you!:) and you too x
