Octopuses have three hearts and blue blood. Two of their hearts pump blood to the gills, while the third one circulates it to the rest of the body. Their blue blood is due to a copper-based molecule called hemocyanin, which is more efficient at transporting oxygen in cold and low-oxygen environments than the iron-based hemoglobin in red blood.
