  1. Human avg. lifespan of more than 70 years
Before industrialization, average human’s life span was under 35 years. Greeks lived average of 19 years and Roman times; it was 28 years due to the many incurable diseases and warfare.
Thanks to industrialization that developed medical technologies and destroyed food shortages, which bumped up the human lifetime surprisingly.

  2. Lobster avg. lifespan of more than 100 years
Lobsters doesn’t have telomere, (Greek telos “end” and meros “part”) which makes living thing get old. Due to biological theory, lobsters can live thousands of years. (Beware, theory is just a theory)
But theory is almost impossible since lobsters die due to the environmental conditions and get eaten by predator. (Most die by get stuck to their shell during the process of ecdysis)

  3. Galapagos Tortoise (Chelonoidis nigra) avg. lifespan of more than 180 years
As many people know, tortoises are the symbol of long live animal. But this Galapagos tortoise lives longest. Their secret in long live is breathing, Galapagos tortoise breath two to three times a minute.
If they get good environmental condition, these tortoises can live up to 250 years, but right now, they are much endangered species.

  4. Red Sea Urchin avg. lifespan of more than 200 years
Just before a decade, red sea urchin’s lifespan was considered about 10 years. But after researching in their growth rate and radioisotope, red sea urchins’ lifespan were more than 200 years.
Red sea urchins grow very slowly but constantly, 100 years old urchin have similar viability and fertility to 10 year old urchin

  5. Bowhead Whale avg. lifespan of more than 210 years
Bowhead whales can grow up to 20 meters (65 foot) with 2 meter (6.5 foot) beard, was known for longest mammal lived in earth before Greenland shark’s age was discovered.
Bowhead whales were once endangered species due to the human’s whaling. But recovered to its number about ten thousand due to world wide sanction.

  6. Ocean Clam avg. lifespan of more than 400 years (Longest live 507 years)
These clams live in deep sea floor; have lines in shell which is similar to annual zone from trees which allow people to determine its age pretty exactly
Longest living clam was 507 years, but tragically, this individual died due to the scientists’ experiment of discovering its age.

  7. Greenland Shark avg. lifespan more than 400 year (Longest live 513 years)
They are once almost extinct due to the whaling for oil until they discovered synthetic oil at WWII.
Due to the research of protein on shark’s skin, these sharks’ grow about half inch per year.
Greenland sharks’ breeding speed is very slow; research shows they can mate at age of about 150 years old.
Scientists are researching about how they are able to catch seals that have 20~25 Km/h with speed of 1.2 Km/h.

  8. Water Bear (Tardigrade) avg. lifespan of more than 1200 years
Water bears are known for its viability at any harsh condition. 150 Celsius (302 Fahrenheit), -272 Celsius (-457.6 Fahrenheit), vacuum condition are nothing for them. They can endure hundreds time of radiation that can kill human instantly, and pressure of 6 times of deepest sea water pressure in the earth.
These bears’ awesome lifespan and viability’s secret is in their syncope condition, but there are still many mysteries that are not solved yet.

  9. Hydra (Ageless, Immortal)
Hydras are shown in textbooks, was recognized for its immortality, and scientists also made a conclusion that hydras are ageless.
These hydras die 0.0006% yearly, but causes are still not defined and it’s still in research.

  10. Turritopsis nutricula (Immortal)
Ok, they are basically really tiny (less than 1 cm) jellyfish. They don’t have any venom and doesn’t not move fast like other jellyfishes.
But they understood eternal life due to the long evolution process and the secret is in their pupa.
When this jellyfish get old enough to die, they become small pupa for two days and reborn as young individual.
