First I want to tell you that I have an amazing boss, I get on with him, and even though he pays my wages we are close like family.
While he was away in iran, he left another guy in charge of his shop because he has known him longer than me.
Last time he went away he left me with the responsibility of his shop and everything went great.
This time he has come back to a train wreck of a shop as things just didn't add up.
The takings for 17 days was down by £170 and there was receipts missing from purchases of food and this made the whole thing even worse.
I had a system while he was away and it worked but this other guy just handed him a load of money and basically said here you go. hmmmm.
Anyway, after this massive loss off £170 he has said anything else that goes missing from the takings or the till needs to be accounted for, if not well he would want us to put it right out of our wages.
Tonight before he left early to take his partner home he told me the till was down by £3, he had used this to pay the donner meat man and he would put it back later.
To make sure that there is no more mistakes made, I now count the money given to me by the customer at the door, in my car and in the shop before I pop it in the till draw.
When it got to 11.45pm it is time to cash up, my boss wasn't back and he has always said that I can cash up if he is not there on time.
I counted out the takings for the night. £300 then I had to count out the till, this should add up to £80 in change so there is enough for the following day.
I knew the till was down by £3 and started counting. I got to £57 and that was all the money in the till, My heart raced a little as I remembered the words, "you will have to pay out of your own money".
I thought to myself. "shit" have I dropped it in the car, so I took my touch and started to go through the car looking for a lost £20 note. Nope not in there.
I went through the papers I had collected from my shift, not in there either. what to do what to do?
I told the other member of staff, he told me that he didn't know what had happened, so I made the choice of phoning my boss.
He answered the phone, and we started to talk, my heart was beating fast as I really didn't want to let him down.
He said to me, Is the till ok? is all the money there?
I said No,
"Ow" he said, and I could feel the tension in my back from the stress of this situation.
He said "how much we down?" so I told him. we are £23 pound down.
He laughed and said to me, "I know I took £20 from the till for petrol"
Why not tell me this before leaving the shop, I was panicking and now he finds it funny to tell me that he had taking it out in the first place.
Bosses hay, they think they own the place. hahahahaa
