2 Incredible Photos of Turquoise Lake Road and 549 Words of Mediocre Writing.

Yes, I counted them.

I have a problem.

I'm too wiped out to write a decent post about these 2 amazing photographs of Turquoise Lake that I took.

I spent all day editing and perfecting them for you.

Then I spent two hours of my evening watching a 100-slide PowerPoint presentation about Incident Command Systems, because I am in training to join the county search and rescue team, because I want to do something useful with my life.

Let me tell you, FEMA training videos are bad.

And somewhere around the time they started explaining the difference between unified command and unity of command, I lost the ability to blink.

So please excuse my mediocre writing today.

I really don't have much of anything to say about Turquoise Lake Road. Or about the amazing photos I took, to be honest.

Instead, I'll just give you directions to Turquoise Lake so you can go enjoy it in real life.

Alright. Start on Harrison Avenue in downtown Leadville, Colorado. Find the only stoplight in town. You really can't miss it. Drive to the stoplight and turn WSW. You are now on Sixth Street. Continue WSW past a school, up the hill, down the hill, past a hospital, past another school. Turn right at the T, and then make sure you veer left to stay on what looks like the main road, instead of going straight on what looks like a slightly less main road. That road would take you to the graveyard, not the lake. They have graveyard tours, though, if you want to visit some other day. Okay, great, you are now on County Road 4. Just stay on that road. You'll drive past some houses, more houses, and you'll eventually take a gentle downhill to the right. BE CAREFUL HERE. There is a blind intersection around this corner, and if you're going one inch per hour over the speed limit you will probably T-bone someone who's pulling out and then your whole day is wrecked.

Okay. Now cross those railroad tracks you see right in front of you there. Don't bother checking for trains, these tracks haven't been in service for a long time. You should see Sugar Loafin' Campground coming up ahead on your right. There's a sign. Can't miss it. Now PAY ATTENTION — keep going straight when you get to the trident in the road. No, not a fork, a trident. You'll know it when you see it. After that just keep driving up the road through the woods till you get to the dam. You'll know when you're at the dam because that's where they stop plowing the road. You can't go any farther.

Now just park your car and unload your snowmobile — You didn't bring your snowmobile? No problem, a lot of people ride fatbikes out here, so just go ahead and — You didn't bring your fatbike? Well, snowshoes or touring skis are also great options, so — You didn't bring any of those, either?

Okay, well, I guess just sit there in your rental car while I go enjoy this gorgeous afternoon.

What you would have seen if you hadn't left everything back at the vacation rental.

Nice work.

No, I didn't count any of the words below this point. Because I'm too wiped out.

Hello from the high Rockies of Colorado. My name is Brandt, pleased to meet you. I’m a marketing copywriter. I live in a little ghost town called Leadville. If you like mountains, snow, jokes, running, hiking, breathing, not working, etc., then you and I have a lot in common. Thanks for stopping by, and have a lovely day!

Kiiller Subject Line! Is this recent? Not much snow :-0

Why thank you. Yes, this is recent. Probably a couple weekends ago, can't remember exactly. It's been a rather dry winter for us, which of course is going to mean all kinds of devastating forest fires in the upcoming season. Whee!

i lived in Carbondale from 1991-2004 so know that neck of the woods well. Hope the snows come for you!

Cool! You know, I've been on I-70 across the whole state but I have yet to pull off and visit Carbondale. I should investigate this. Any recommendations on good places to hike/run/snowshoe around that area during winter?

I highly recommend you plan a visit there for their annual party in July for the Carbondale Mountain Fair. That time of year you can come over the pass and cut down the travel time! In the winter, The Crystal Valley up HWY 133 is a paradise for all those activities!

Thanks for the tip!

You are definitely one of my favorites to catch up on when I visit Steemit every couple weeks! Where's the lake though?!?

Thanks for taking the time to say so! That's very kind of you and it really means a lot to me. 🙂

Re: the lake … this post was technically more about Turquoise Lake Road and how to get to the lake, as opposed to the lake itself. But you can actually see part of the lake in the 2nd photo. It's that whitish flat looking thing on the right.

There are also photos of the lake in this post I wrote awhile back. In case you don't have time to click that link, I've added one of the photos below for your convenience:

Here is the lake.

LOL! I've never read directions on how to get somewhere on Steemit before... and you totally did it the small town way.

Turn right at the rocket but before the sign. If you hit the bridge, you went too far...

Well … now you know how to get to Turquoise Lake! Hooray!

I thought about doing this the big town way, but I would've had to wait probably like 20 years for Leadville to get big, and who's got time to wait around for that? I might be dead by then.

P.S. I forgot to mention, there's a STOP SIGN right by that first school that's pretty easy to miss, and if you're not paying attention and/or driving too fast to stop on the ice, you will probably run over a schoolkid and then your day is wrecked.
