No, there is nothing scientific about this title. Let me pour you a cup of coffee. Hand me your mug. Let's sit a while. I must confess I'm not sure when it happened. Did it happen the first day my son was born? I don't know. My brain just went from a laid back easy going one to a jack of all trades mom one day. Now I'm going to tell you my fantasy. Are you ready? You can't tell a soul! Understand?? Lately I've had this daydream, I am in some remote tropical destination lying in a beach chair. Yes, I'm enjoying the rays and warmth of the sun listening to the beautiful sound of the ocean waves cascading against the shore. Steel drums play softly in the background. There I am with a novel in my hands. Out of the corner a cabana boy comes out looking like a hot young John Stamos. He says, "Hi ,gorgeous what can I do for you?" I pull my shades down look at him. Then I reply, "Ssssshhh! I'm trying to read! Maybe bring me a drink in 30 minutes." Not what you thought I am sure. Right? This is a fine example of exhibit A : the mom brain. It isn't that moms aren't caring, passionate, creative, ambitious, hard-working, or loving people because we are. But there are times we need to recharge our batteries.b8af5dab-581a-422c-a965-8982afed0fca-compressed.jpg
Between catching the baby bottle in mid-air, changing diapers, cooking, working, tutoring, nursing, house cleaning, and so on we all need a moment occassionally. I am planning a getaway this summer for example. Exhibit B : The mom brain. Another example, is the fact I forget my children have gotten older. This is a funny experience. It is also a bittersweet experience. Like when my older son who is approaching his teens says he won't call me mommy. I have to bribe him now to hold my hand in the mall. Apparently, footlong subs are the way to a boy's heart by the way. I still think of the little faces that used to always need me. They still need my guidance now, but they aren't so little. That is okay though. One day I hope to be there for my daughter, when she has a case of mom brain. Then I'll have the chance to spoil her kids. Thanks for listening to my rant. Let's do coffee again sometime!
