So my birthday is just in three days, and let me tell you, in my 18 years of celebrating my birthday, I have always noticed how having my birthday in this month is just simply terrible or at least not as good as other months. Sure, it might seem cute to start a new year with being a year older at its first month. I'm no longer complaining about ageing unlike last year that I was so pressured about it, but what bothers me most is the whole January being January. To enlighten yourself, here's a Buzzfeed-like yet original list to show you what I really mean:
1. Most people are broke in January
January is the post-holidays month, so most people are still recovering from either terrible vacation hangovers or their finances. Now, celebrating my birthday in this month would not sound as appealing, because many people are going to decline even a mere buffet for honest reasons like "I don't really have money to go out." They will not even be able to send you a gift at least to which a celebrant like me would respond:
2. Everyone is all of a sudden so busy
January is not the first month of the year for no reason. It is the time when people start going back to their usual routines--work, school, etc. It's frustrating when your birthday is in this busy month, because you won't really have a lot of time in your and their hands to set a schedule for a celebration even if it's just a simple lunch. So you celebrate alone, which is not bad, but then you could also be busy yourself so WTF.
3. You feel like being a year older in this month is injustice in your part compared to the one being the same year older in March
It's not about who's older and who's not. This is about why the hell is it that when your birthday is January you feel like you have so much time to make it your year but feel a little cheated on because you are required to just get started right away and be able to meet that deadline which is the end of the year whereas if it's a March baby, they can say "my 19th is going to be my year" and have a 2-month warm up and a whole year-end Holidays to go through before they reach the deadline for such proclamation.
4. People never forget about your birthday but they still won't come out anyway
I have always known ever since I was young that it's not difficult to remember my birthday as it usually is the deadline or beginning of so many things just like now--it's the start of my semester. However, what sucks is that although people really know it's your birthday, they purposely hide to get away with their not having something for you or not having the time to even greet you at least with those two simple words with a little exclamation point. A March baby's birthday might be forgotten but at least they do not get avoided in purpose...
Happy almost Birthday!
