Ubisoft will make Assassin's Creed mobile version

Assassin's Creed, an open-world adventure game, will be released as a mobile version. Ubisoft plans to start developing an Assassin's Creed mobile game in cooperation with Tencent of China. According to the game industry on the 15th, Ubisoft will release Unreal Engine 4 based Assassin's Creed Mobile in partnership with Tencent in China.

Ubisoft is planning to make Assassin's Creed Mobile. On the 9th, Ubisoft announced that it would create a new partially paid game based on a new IP. Also, existing franchise will expand mobile through a 3Q earnings conference call. It also announced that it will expand the existing triple-A franchise to mobile.

Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed is one of the best titles in the game industry. Starting with the first series in 2007, there were nearly 40 series titles. In addition, it is a title that has a thick enthusiast group that can record sales of over 100 million copies worldwide. Based on the game IP, it has a great impact through media mix such as novels, cartoons, and movies.

Industry expectations

However, some are concerned that it may be a bit late to compete with mobile games. This is because it is difficult to achieve the original level of the game quality including graphics when porting a triple A title to mobile. In particular, in the case of Assassin's Creed, as the new title Assassin's Creed: Valhalla was released in November of last year. There is an analysis that it is difficult to achieve synergy effects with mobile games.

In terms of cooperation with Tencent, the view that securing a demand base through the Chinese market will be the priority is prevailing. Moreover, In 2017, Ubisoft signed a contract to select Tencent as a publisher. After that, Tencent introduce mobile RPG Might and Magic Heroes: Era of Chaos to the Chinese market. After that, in 2018, Tencent acquired a 5% stake in Ubisoft, strengthening the partnership.

As the Chinese game demand base is strong. So there is also a prospect that it will maximize profitability by applying a partially paid business model that has been localized.

Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Nikko Partners and a market research firm, said that "Ubisoft will attempt to diversify its beneficiaries by porting triple-A-class games to mobile". He said it appears to have had a decisive effect.
