I used to be an Accountant, now I'm a Data Analyst by Day and a Game Designer by Night.

Hello all - My name is Brent. I'm hoping to use this platform to meet fellow passionate game developers, and get inspired by others who are currently on their journey to indie dev stardom and those who have already made it.

Some stuff about me... I’ve always dreamed about making games. There was a point in my life when I thought about going to school for game design. Not sure what happened, but that never unfolded. After graduating university, I ended up with a job in Accounting, going with a stable career path.

Eventually I evolved into a data analyst, frequently using VBA in Excel and developing Access databases.

One day I decided to try out Unity. I remember I was studying in a Starbucks, and I finished the "roll a ball" (https://learn.unity.com/project/roll-a-ball-tutorial) tutorial on Unity's website. I thought to myself, "yes, this is it... I love doing this." Ever since then I've been hooked.

Have you ever had those days where you are sitting at work and you think to yourself, "is this where I'm headed? I'm not excited at all about this..." And then your body heats up with a mix of anxiety and passion for what you really want to do. At that point I made a decision to give it my all and make a game. I really want to make this work, to prove to myself that even a guy with an accounting degree can follow his dreams to become a game designer.

Nowadays, I wake up extra early each morning, go to a cafe and work on my game before my full time job begins. After work, I start on the game dev again. On weekends, I work on game dev. I've been doing this routine for about 5 months now. If I didn't love game development, there's no way I would've lasted this long. Fortunately my wife is really supportive of my projects too! I couldn't do this without her support.

The current game I’m working on is titled, “Haustoria”. It started out as a small idea I had during my trip to Japan one year, and slowly developed to where it is today.
