In Haven players battle for control of a forest. One player controls the city using machines to try and conquer the forest. The other player plays as the forest and it’s creatures defend their home.
Each player will play power cards to influence the game. Players may also play or remove seekers to different lore tokens in order to gain influence there. Caution needs to be met for when that lore token is resolved if there are more seeker power than the number shown on the lore that player loses all the cards from that lore. Players do not gain if they are greedy.
Players draw new cards each round then resolve the lore tokens. If a lore token has a number of offerings on it this will trigger a resolve action. The resolve action is how players play their influence tokens on the board, and place their tokens on havens if they control majority of that space. The final action is to place one offering card on a matching lore token.
The game goes back and forth between players until one elemental has left the board, or all lore tokens of one type have been claimed.
This is another one of Ryan Lukat’s masterpieces. Ryan Lukat is the artist behind Above and Below, and Near and Far. Many of Red Raven Games feature his work. The games art is really nicely done. The game board is thematic to the game. The elemental standees are really nice. The influence tokens, haven tokens, and cards are quality made.
This is a fun strategy game. It takes a bit to get used to the combat and lore. Remembering what you’ve played where can be difficult with quite a bit going on through the build up of the game. The final scoring can tip pretty quick.
I have enjoyed this game a lot.
