Playing Dungeons and Dragons Made Me A SociopathsteemCreated with Sketch.

I began my very first Dungeons and Dragons campaign this weekend. It had been forbidden when I was young, and I had been too busy and too tired to try it after I went out on my own as an adult. I'd been wanting to do a Dungeons and Dragons campaign for years, but this was my first real opportunity.

Dungeons and Dragons is an amazing game. You can literally be anything in-game. I was born with a severe eye disability that left me unable to see three dimensions. But, in Dungeons and Dragons, I am free. I can be a sharp-eyed archer, or an acrobat, or a flying mage. After all, these are jobs I could never hope to strive for in my real body.

I must admit, there were moments when I went a little overboard creating characters. People were shooting chocolate out of their fingers and apparently that is impossible. I had also considered making a mage-monk, but apparently that's both OP and impossible. I suddenly found myself running into ridiculous rules. No pissing off the DM. Make up a backstory for why you want to be able to spawn sawblades out of ice crystals. Don't turn yourself into a cannibal.

I rebelled, of course. I had no interest in escaping from reality only to find my escapism to be declared unbelievable.

I'm thinking about switching to GURPS instead.

I just made my alignment chaotic good and suddenly I could get away with most things :'D

GURPS is an amazing role playing system, i'm sure you'll like.

Be sure to remember it's very important to keep things on a certain level of reality (GMs and players) to be able to achieve real entertainment. I played by different conditions and it really sucked.

And i'm not saying that it is forbidden, i have my good share of surreal campaigns and adventures, but it's important to feel you are really there with that exact universe in mind... It's either the player and the GM's responsibility.
