The boom we are experiencing in this moment of retro videogames is an indisputable fact in the game world. The games that have been a great leap for the community of players will be exposed in this brief selection. Ready to jump, jump and jump non-stop?

According to FragrrThe term retro refers to the period from the first generation of consoles and personal computers such as Coleco Telstar or Pong by Atari, to the fifth generation that would pass through Sega Saturn or Atari Jaguar.

If we focus on the last decades of the last century, the most characteristic retro videogames are the following:

Donkey Kong

One of the top representatives of the retro genre in video games, we find it represented in Donkey Kong. The truth is that it was called this way, simply, to take advantage of the success of the movie King Kong. Its main character, Mr.Video, which was later called Jumpman, had the mission of jumping the barrels thrown by the evil ape.

The creator of this game, Miyamoto-san, wanted to make a title based on Popeye's character, but because he didn't get the rights, he had to change the characters.

Mario Bros Saga

Since the first Mario appeared in 1983, we should stop at some really interesting deliveries like the 1985, Super Mario Bros 3 in 1988, Super Mario World in 1990, or Super Mario 64 in 1996.

The truth is that each of these releases was a turning point in the video game market. And this is one of the most important sagas in history.

Sonic 2

The popular blue hedgehog that at this moment does not seem to raise its head, became a success for the industry. The truth is that it introduced playable mechanics such as an unusual speed for the time (we are talking about 1992) or the collection of rings that served as maximum protection for the hero.

This sequel was a revolution with respect to the previous delivery, because, among other things, introduced a second character called Tails. Although it was first released on Master System, Sega's legendary 8-bit console, it was later released on Mega Drive as well. Another great innovation is the two-player competitive mode, in addition to the cooperative mode.

Pitfall

Nor can we forget the mythical Pitfall, which was born in 1982, was considered by many as the first platform game with lateral scroll. Following the line of the mythical film adventurers like Indiana Jones, the main character of this title had to swing, jump, dodge or descend stairs to overcome different levels.

Pacman

Of course, we can't ignore another of the mythical retro games like Pac-Man, the Namco game created in 1980, which became the best-selling game machine in history.

Pac-Man's original name is Paku-Paku, which in Japanese means "eat", but when it arrived in the United States its name was changed to Pac-Man because of the similarities of the words "Puck" and "Fuck".

One of the tricks that followed not a few players was to turn to one side and then the other quickly to dodge the ghosts.

Along with all these, we can also highlight many others such as Space Invaders, Manic Miner, Rainbow Islands, Rocket Knight Adventures or Ape Scape.
What do these retro games look like to you, what others would you add to the list?
