Spoiler alert: this game's predictions of events from two years ago failed to come to pass. This game is free for the second half of June 2019 for those who have an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
First released in 2006, this game is full of bugs, and not just the giant insects released upon Earth by alien ships. It feels cheap. AI and dialogue leave a lot to be desired. The English voice acting is bad. The music is cheesy. I would say it might have been a decent release on PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox, but it is way behind the curve even in 2006. The "normal" difficulty isn't difficult at all. The opening narration is hilarious, as a news reporter states that humanity doesn't know whether the alien fleet surrounding Earth is peaceful or hostile, but the aliens have already been named the "ravagers." Surprise, surprise, Earth is attacked. And cue the game. The controls are decent, although it seems like they decided not to bother mapping controls to all the buttons on the controller. No reload? Even in 2006?
With that complaining out of the way, I have to admit this is strangely fun despite its flaws. The environment is full of buildings and bridges thay can be destroyed. There is also something strangely appealing about mowing down hordes of bugs or super-advanced alien gunships with an assault rifle.
I think I prefer it to Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, which was another recent Games with Gold freebie on Xbox 360. If you can get it free, give it a go. This game is so bad it's good!
