Part 5 was a long time ago, but this project has resumed! I will be running a Dungeons and Dragons game as Dungeon Master tomorrow, and I anticipate a need for skeletons. It's time to slap some paint on these miniatures at last!
That layer of gray primer needs some color! I started by blocking out areas in the colors I wanted. Bone is, well, bone colored. I think it's too cartoonishly pale, but we will see. Fabric is red and yellow. Shields are red. Metal is a silvery metal flake paint. Then I slathered everything with a brown wash.
Perhaps I should have used sepia paint here instead of opaque brown paint. Oh, well. The point is to see if I can do this fast and simple. These are utilitarian pieces, not showcase models. I am not inclined to be a speed-painter, so this is an exercise to see if I can make it work anyway.
Here is the result so far. I like the grimy effect for these corpses, but I may go back and add highlights with dry-brushing and detail paint work to make it all pop.
My paints are an assortment of acrylic model paints from Reaper, Vallejo, and Army Painter. I recommend all of them. They come in dropper bottles and thin well with a bit of water. If I use a translucent wash, it will probably be Vallejo sepia ink, because I already have that. Some people really like the Games Workshop washes, too. Ask away if you have any questions!
